Once known as the Carrington property, in late 1998, Long Hill acquired the 24 acre site in Gillette for recreation purposes. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 26, 2001. Riverside Park was officially dedicated and opened on September 14, 2002. The facility is on the south side of Valley Road, to the east of the Town Hall and the Library, and extends south to the Passaic River. To the east is the Gillette School and the Senior Citizen's Center.

All parking is in the 200 car lot at the adjacent Town Hall and Library.
The paved path around the park is approximately 1/4 mile starting from the bollards on Valley Rd. and returning to the start.

Long Hill Township has a public lake in Stirling where you can swim and play on the beach in summer, and ice-skate in winter.

The pristine outdoor setting makes this facility a perfect place for the whole family to spend their summer days. The facility is staffed by fully certified lifeguards. Enjoy the summer with swimming, diving, picnics, sun and fun. Parking, rest rooms and a concession stand are available.
Finding Stirling Lake: On Central Avenue in Stirling travel 2 blocks north of the railroad, then turn into Chestnut Street OPPOSITE the First Presbyterian Church.
Parking: There is no parking on Chestnut Street. Continue up Chestnut Street past the Lake to the next left at High Street. Follow High Street and watch for an unmarked driveway on your left. Then turn downhill to the Parking Lot. You can also enter High Street directly from Central Avenue one block below Long Hill Road. Then watch for the driveway on your right.
DID YOU KNOW that the west pond is filled by rainwater runoff from the side of Long Hill, but the main lake is filled with water from our own well. Using well water helps protect swimmers from the risks of surface pollutants. There is no water flow between the pond and the lake. More interesting facts about Stirling Lake here.

In the summer of 2001, the Township completely rebuilt the playground at Meyersville Field under the leadership of the Recreation Advisory Committee. The apparatus was installed by its vendor, and the Public Works Department did the landscaping and other site work. The pictures below speak for themselves.
HICKS TRACT
Entrance to the Hicks Tract at the end of Knollandale Road, Millington. Open space and trails that run from Millington behind the Millington School to Stirling.
PASSAIC RIVER TRAIL
The trail is being developed along Long Hill's open space at the north bank of the Passaic River.
